Your child must be enrolled in Harper School to register for this class.

This magical and exciting “sport of the mind” will exercise your child’s brain and build brain muscle and new cells. Instruction will include the basics and then move into tactics and strategy, opening theory, middle game planning and endgame combinations. There will also be time to plan and apply the lessons learned weekly. This exciting program teaches chess but also builds life skills. Life skills are developed such as problem solving, decision making, responsibility, analytical and critical thinking, focus and concentration and the like while learning and playing chess. Studies now confirm that the student that studies and plays chess does better academically. Indeed, this is an exciting and fun sport to learn and play for a lifetime. Theatrical Studies - 113018

Students will learn several different methods of theatrical techniques to help better prepare them for the various roles of theater. They will intensely study character development through improvisational games and sketch comedy. Students will also get an opportunity to sharpen their audition skills through practicing cold readings and monologues from several scripted shows. Guitar Lessons - 113051

Novice - 116007

For 7 and 9 year olds who are developing basic racquet skills with use of the correct grip on ground strokes and volleys. Hand eye, footwork, ball tracking and tennis fundamentals continue to be a part of the process. Emphasis is on learning to hit the ball from mid-court. Teamwork, fun, and games are used to enhance the learning process. Some classes will introduce beginning competition in a nurturing format. This class is appropriate for children with no tennis experience.

Jr Intermediate I Tennis - 116009

For 9-11 year olds who have learned basic ground strokes and volley skills. Students should be hitting low to high and with basic correct grips and have some control over ball direction. Hand eye and ball tracking should be developing past the Beginner level. The service motion is formally introduced along with overheads. Footwork and balance should be improving and students should be able to navigate the court to hit balls out of reach. Teamwork, fun and games continue to be emphasized. Competition will be introduced in singles and doubles format with the emphasis on sportsmanship

Junior Intermediate I For 12-14 year olds. The perfect class for older students who have a desire to learn tennis but are getting a late start. Students with minimal or no formal tennis instruction will find a nurturing environment to catch up with their peers. Basic ground strokes, volleys, service motion and overheads will be emphasized. Students will learn to rally and play competitive points.
