Storm Girls Travel & New Trier Feeder Basketball - 127084

If you enjoy the competition of travel basketball and love the game, now is your chance to put your skills to the test! Storm Basketball and New Trier Feeder Basketball are working together to promote and support competitive basketball teams, enhance and improve players’ skills, and foster a positive environment of sportsmanship and teamwork. These co-sponsored teams will allow girls to play for their community while still being a part of the New Trier Feeder program. Tryouts are held prior to the season and team selection is based on ability, attitude and desire. Teams practice twice per week. In addition to the team fee, players pay a $150 gear fee. The season runs October-March. Once payment is received to reserve your spot on the team, no refunds will be issued. To reserve a tryout spot, participants must register (at no cost).

Co-Rec Indoor Volleyball Leagu - 128037

Registration is underway for the Fall Adult Leagues. For information, or to register your team, contact Sara Hilby at 847-256-9689 or shilby@wilpark.org. We offer both competituve and recreational men's basketball leagues, women's volleyball, co-ed volleyball and men's soccer leagues. We provide team T-shirts for the men's basketball and soccer leagues. The registration deadline for each league is two weeks prior to the start date. Returning teams from the previous season will have priority registration and all new teams will fill in after. The registration deadline will be void if the league fills up prior to the deadline. The team roster needs to be filled out the first night of each league. League fees will need to be paid in full before the first night of games. All schedules will be posted at www.wilmettepark.org under the "Sports/team-schedules" section. The weather hotline is 847-256-7133 ext. 4 for all leagues.

Winter Break Youth Pickleball - 227004

Join the pickleball craze! Pickleball, a game that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong, is sweeping the country. Pickleball players use wooden paddles and whiffle balls to play on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. This class will introduce youngsters to forehand and backhand shots, ground strokes, serving, volleying, ball return, dinks, lobs and overall strategy needed to play this easy to learn sport. Fun and challenging drills and recreational matches will help young players develop the hand-eye coordination, motor skills, and mental abilities needed for a successful pickleball game. All equipment will be provided. Camp will meet at Romona Elementary School.

Strum N' Sports - 227012

On Mondays, spend either 60 minutes playing sports such as soccer, basketball, football and more, or 60 minutes learning the basics of archery. On Wednesdays, spend 45 minutes learning basketball and then 45 minutes learning to play the guitar by learning chords, scales, rhythm, tuning...and maybe even master a song! Pee Wee Track, Field, & Fitness - 227013

This unique class combines stretching, movement, and other fitness concepts with running, jumping, throwing and other skills used in track and field. Boys and girls work on body coordination, agility, balance, and self-confidence as they participate in fitness games such as Simon Says and Red Light-Green Light. We include sprints, relays, hurdles, long jump, discus throw and other track and field events. Our fun approach inspires little athletes to love being active! We conclude with a fun-filled track and field meet on the last day of class.

In 201, older players begin to develop more advanced skills such as guard/post techniques, setting screens, moving without the ball, and offensive spacing. Defensive instruction includes man-to-man, denying the ball, help-line and boxing out. Players develop their shot, using proper mechanics to be effective further from the basket. Game Time Basketball - 227025

One of the best ways to develop your basketball skills is through game play, and in Game Time you do just that. Each week, basketball players are challenged through various games including 1-on-1, 3-on-3, and 5-on-5. Coaches referee and guide the class to enhance the players understanding of the game. Dodgeball League - 227033

Play this popular game in a safe and supervised environment. We use super-soft balls, and safety is stressed during game play. Each week, players learn new variations of the game, keeping class fresh and the kids having fun. Time limits are placed on all games, so participants do not sit out too long and remain active throughout the class. During the first week, we have practice play and evaluations to select balanced teams. The season concludes with playoffs; winners take home a medal. Each participant receives a team T-shirt. This program meets at McKenzie School.

Young Tigers Tae Kwon Do - 227036

Basic techniques of Taekwondo, combined with deep breathing exercises, help children develop proper posture, concentration, and coordination. Practice of proper manners helps to develop courtesy, self-esteem and self-control. Class is taught in a relaxed and fun environment. Students should wear a martial arts uniform during class (white Taekwondo uniform-dobock, which can be ordered at the class). The class instructor, Grand Master Kim, has more than 50 years of martial arts training and has been teaching students at the Wilmette Park District for 18 years. Students increase their coordination, agility and poise, as well as learn lasting personal safety skills. They also benefit from the mental stimulation of learning the choreographed moves of the kata and the discipline of conforming to the class rules. Uniforms and Belt-Testing are options available through the ISKC instructor. Please note that the Youth, Parent/Child and Adult classes may train together. Winter Break Go For It Girls Camp - 227043

This multi sports program allows girls to try new sports and achieve goals in an environment tailored just for them. Young girls derive many benefits from participating in sports, such as confidence, higher self-esteem, and a positive body image. Participants are taught fundamentals as well as basic skill development in a variety of sports. Games and scrimmages encourage team play and interaction in a safe and active setting encouraging physical fitness and teamwork. Sports played include soccer, kickball, softball, floor hockey, basketball, football and more. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt. Campers should bring a snack and water each day. Week 1 will meet at the Community Recreation Center gym and week 2 will meet at Central School.

Basketball Clinic 301 - 227044

This clinic focuses on various guard/post techniques to develop passing, shooting and dribbling skills in game situations. Defensive instruction includes man-to-man, denying the ball, help-line and boxing out. Athletes who qualify for 301 possess intermediate shooting and dribbling skills, a basic understanding of the game and are looking for a more competitive basketball experience. Classes meet at Central School, except the Sat. Class meets at McKenzie School.

Winter Break Dodgeball Tournament - 227045

Get out of the cold and into the gym for the Hot Shots Sports Dodgeball Winter Tournament! Gather several friends to make your own team (minimum of 5 players and maximum of 8 players) or join a random team by signing up individually. The first day will be round robin practice play to determine divisions. Day two, teams will play other teams in their division, battling for positions in the playoffs. The 3-day tournament will conclude with a double elimination tournament to crown the champion! All team requests must be submitted by Jan 1 to Harry Brown at harry@hotshots4kids.com. This high energy non-contact football camp teaches the fundamentals of the sport, including passing, receiving, blocking, routes and more. This class is for beginning adults who want to learn traditional Taekwondo for self-defense, health, physical fitness, and stress release. The main emphasis in this class will be practicing basic blocks, punches, kicks, stretches, and deep breathing. Instructor Grandmaster Kim has more than 50 years of martial arts training.
